A Year After Discovering Jean Deaux

Jean Deaux - Find U (produced by Sampha)

I’ve been a fan of Jean Deaux ever since I randomly came across her track a year ago called “Plenty Raps”. Don’t let the rhymes fool you, she’s not only a MC, but she’s an incredible vocalist and song writer. Last year she was creating waves with her debut music video, “Escape” and now she’s just killing it.

Ever since I discovered her first few songs (a few are posted below) I instantly realized she would have a place in music. I mean check it, over the past year she’s worked with Sampha, Isaiah Rashad, Vic Mensa, Saba and so many more. I’m not saying they define her music or anything, I’m saying she is a perfect example of how creating a unique sound, staying persistent (she puts in work!) and being authentic will open doors and have people reaching out to you.

I’m not going to lie, at moments she reminds me of Lauryn Hill, but then again she carries her own style/vibe. I believe that’s just one of the many reasons her music has a timeless effect. If anyone were to ask me in 10-15 years who I’m listening to, I’d proudly say Jean Deaux.

Also it’s pronounced “John Doe”, don’t jack up her name b.
